Every sacrificial minute is a thing left
dangling without purpose.
The scale and scope of the universe
is not this pill box -
It is the vastness seen only by children
and in elderly taillights.
A world flattened and trampled
into latitudes and longitudes
with no place for uncertainty.
Crisp are their words while yours dribble
like pudding through slack lips
and fill pools of regret at your feet.
Lift your eyes.
Sing the song of summer as it throbs
in your temples and leaves grease on your skin.
Breathe and with it inhale the skies.
Though they may stand above, stretch your arms
and skim the possibilities.
