A quick piece I did of Tara from the BtVS episode "Restless". It's one of my favorite episodes, and I always loved this scene between her and Willow. (Tidbit of Buffy trivia: the writing on Tara's back is a poem by Sappho, an ancient Greek lyrical poet believed to be a lesbian).

i studied sappho for a school project after having come across her poetry on my own. the poem on tara's back was sappho's key to fame - so to speak.

sappho was a writer in the late 7th centure b.c. she was called lesbian because she lived on the greek isle of lesbos - lesbian meaning from lesbos. her sexual preference for women and her poetry of womanly affections propelled the term lesbian into homosexual context. pretty nifty :)

"there's a moment when i look at you: and no speech is left in me: my tongue breaks: then fire races under my skin: and i tremble: and grow pale: for i am dying of such love: or so it seems"

^call that a rough translation. it all depends on what original translation you refer to^

but enough of a history lesson *sheepish* i love this piece - the ep made me giddy and i love what you've done here :)

I'm familiar with Sappho having gotten my teaching degree in English, but I was not familiar with the translation. It's insanely gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing that with me!

I'm glad you liked the piece. I love Buffy and I never thought Tara got enough credit. Also, Amber Benson? An absolute sweetheart when I met her in person. :)

You are welcome for the share . . . and I agree, Tara never got her due *sighs*

I love to meet celebs who are actually down to earth. That's fantastic that you were able to meet Amber Benson! Congrats to you *giggles*

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense because the picture that I was using as a reference was really hard to see. Still, according to the lore, it's supposed to be a poem by Sappho.
